DiY Headbands

Hello again friends! Hope everyone had a great long weekend. We enjoyed time at home hanging out with little bit and working around the house. Last night we celebrated a friend’s birthday at a little surprise party. This particular friend is a fan of yellow and so I filled her present with yellow things, a few purchased and a few made. This friend has very cute-short headband ready hair so of course these were the perfect addition to her yellow gifts.

They are fun to make and you can do a lot of different things with them. The two I made are only a couple of the styles you could go with. Here’s how:

Braided Headband:

1.Measure around your head from the top of your head to the back base of your head (roughly where your headband will sit). We’ll use 20 inches as an example.

2.Cut three pieces of material giving about 2 to 2 ½ inches extra for the braiding. Width is really up to you as to how thick you want the braid. I cut my pieces about 2 ½ inches wide. So the pieces were 22 ½ x 2 ½ for this example.

 

3.Fold the ends together and under to make a nice edge and stitch. I used x stitches to give it  nice look.

 

4.Get a piece of elastic approximately 3 inches long and stitch to the end that you have ready.

5.Braid the material all the way to the other end(depending on the size and tightness of the braid you’ll  probably be left with about 18 inches of material).

6. Repeat step 3 on this end and you are done!

 

Thick Material Headband:

1. Measure around your head from the top of your head to the back base of your head (roughly where your headband will sit). We’ll use 20 inches as an example.

2.Cut your piece of material according to your measurement and the desired width. This one was 18x3 (we are leaving room to add our elastic).

 

3.Fold it over long ends together (if you are using patterned material make sure the pattern is on the inside) and sew all the way down.

4.Turn it right side out so that you have a tub.

 

5.Turn the ends under and fold over the edge of your elastic and stitch on each end.

6.This will leave you with a headband this is approximately 1 ½ inches wide.

 

Of course you can go all kinds of directions with these. Make flowers to add to them, use different materials to create a patch look instead of braid, stripes, the possibilities are basically endless. Another tip is that if you don’t have plain elastic you can use a hair elastic cut in two (this tip found here). Have fun with it!
